We all have a connection to the sea, whether it is recognized or not, and with that connection comes responsibility.
This series tells the story of the resilient colony of urban Little Penguins that reside in St. Kilda, a seaside suburb of Melbourne, Australia. At the heart of this project is Julia Morais, a passionate advocate and PhD student committed to marine conservation and sustaining the penguin colony. Despite daily challenges such as pollution, boat traffic, construction, fishing, and human activity, Julia and the penguins remain steadfast.
Through documentary photography, we witness their endurance and adaptation, emphasizing the interconnectedness between these iconic creatures and the local community.
The project serves as a reminder of the mutual impact between our environment and ourselves, and advocates for more sustainable interactions with our marine ecosystems. For while our natural world remains tenacious, it is not invincible.
